The Chancenkarte is an innovative concept that facilitates access to the German labor market for people from non-EU countries. It serves as an opportunity to enter Germany for up to one year in order to look for a job. This model is intended to attract qualified workers and thus alleviate the shortage of skilled workers in Germany. JIG.WORLD

  • Applicants must fulfill two basic requirements in order to apply for an opportunity card:

    1. minimum score: Based on a points system that evaluates various factors such as age, qualifications, professional experience, language skills and relationship to Germany.

    2. independent financing:
Proof that you are able to support yourself while looking for a job.

After successfully finding a job, applicants can convert their residence permit into a longer-term title, such as the EU Blue Card.

Points system criteria for the opportunity card

    1. age:
    - Younger applicants (e.g. under 35 years of age) receive more points.
    - This is intended to promote long-term integration into the labor market.

    2. professional qualifications:
    - Degrees from universities or vocational training earn points.
    - There are particular advantages for degrees that are in demand in the German labor market.

    3. professional experience:
    - Relevant experience in the desired professional field is highly valued.
    - The longer and more specific the experience, the higher the score.

    4. language skills:
    - Knowledge of German (e.g. level B1, B2) is a great advantage.
    - English language skills can also score points, especially in internationally oriented professions.

    5. reference to Germany:
    - Previous stays, e.g. through study or work.
    - Family members in Germany or cultural ties

Frequently asked questions

The Chancenkarte is a residence permit that allows qualified people from non-EU countries to come to Germany for up to one year to look for work. It is based on a points system that evaluates factors such as age, qualifications, professional experience, language skills and connections to Germany.
German language skills are not a mandatory criterion, but can increase your score. Good language skills (e.g. level B1 or higher) significantly improve your chances, especially in professions where German is required.
At least a completed vocational training or an academic degree is required. Ideally, the qualifications should be recognized in Germany and be in demand on the job market, e.g. in sectors such as IT, healthcare or engineering.
You can do a self-check to find out if you meet the minimum score. Here is the link to the official self-check tool: Chancenkarte Self-Check.
