The Germany Opportunity Card (Chancenkarte) is a scheme designed to facilitate non-European Union (EU) qualified workers to work in Germany.
Thanks to the Opportunity Card, foreign qualified workers will have the chance to come to Germany and work without having a concrete job offer in hand. Under this framework, candidates will be subjected to a scoring system and will need to meet at least three out of the following four conditions:
- 1. University degree or professional skills
2. At least three years of professional experience
3. Knowledge of German or having lived in Germany before
4. Being under 35 years old. A certain number of cards will be issued each year based on the needs of the job market, so there won't be an unlimited distribution of cards.
THE PROCESS IS FASTER NOW! The Opportunity Card scheme will make the process easier and faster for those wanting to find a job in Germany.
Some countries with visa agreements can already enter Germany without a visa for 90 days, but they are only allowed to find short-term jobs. The Opportunity Card allows people to search for jobs or apprenticeships while in the country.
Applicants will have to prove they can cover their living expenses during this time. Therefore, it's essential for individuals to be able to support themselves upon arrival in Germany.
Germany's "Opportunity Card" Requirements
-
Sufficient Professional Qualifications: The applicant should have the necessary professional qualifications in the field they wish to work in Germany. This could be a university degree, a vocational training certificate, or an equivalent qualification.
-
Financial Support: The applicant must be able to financially support themselves while looking for a job in Germany. This can be achieved through accumulated savings or financial guarantees.
-
Health Insurance: The applicant should have health insurance before arriving in Germany.
-
Identification Documents: The applicant must have a valid passport and should possess the documents needed to apply for a visa if required.
-
Application: The application for the Germany Opportunity Card should be made before entering Germany. Applicants can apply at the German Consulate or Embassy.
-
Legal Immigration Status: The applicant must have a legal immigration status.
-
Job Search Duration: Opportunity Card holders can stay in Germany for a maximum of six months during their job search process. They are expected to find a job within this period.
-
Job Acceptance Requirement: Applicants must accept the job once they find one in Germany. After receiving a job offer, they can apply for a work permit.
These conditions provide a general overview, but Germany's immigration policies may change over time. It's essential to get current and detailed information from Germany's official immigration authorities or the embassy before applying.
