The Miniature Wonderland in Hamburg is a world-famous highlight that makes the hearts of model building fans, families and the curious beat faster. As the largest model railway layout in the world, it combines technical skill, creativity and attention to detail and offers a fascinating journey through realistic miniature worlds and imaginative scenarios.
A world in miniature
Miniatur Wunderland covers an area of more than 1,500 square meters and is home to over 16 kilometers of track on which around 1,000 trains run. In addition to railroads, there are countless lovingly designed details such as cars, ships, airplanes and small figures that bring every scene to life. The layout is divided into various themed worlds that faithfully depict cities, countries and fantasy worlds.
Impressive theme worlds
- Knuffingen and the airport: The fictitious town of Knuffingen is a Miniatur Wunderland classic and impresses with a fully functioning miniature airport. Planes taxi over the runways, take off and land - a technical masterpiece that never fails to impress visitors.
- Scandinavia: This themed world brings the beauty of the North into miniature format. Real water surfaces with moving ships, snow-covered mountains and typical Nordic architecture will amaze visitors.
- Switzerland: Here you will find the majestic Alps, impressive mountain ranges and small mountain villages. There is also a replica of the famous Matterhorn.
- USA: This themed world takes visitors to the land of unlimited possibilities. From the glittering skyline of Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon, the diversity of the USA is impressively presented.
- Hamburg: Of course, there is also a miniature model of the hometown. The harbor, the Elbphilharmonie concert hall and other landmarks of the Hanseatic city are reproduced here in loving detail.
Loving details and interactivity
Miniatur Wunderland thrives on the countless details that have been incorporated into every scene. From tiny people in everyday situations to humorous scenes and hidden surprises - there is always something new to discover. Interactive elements invite visitors to become active themselves: Light and sound effects can be triggered or small animations can be started, making the experience unforgettable, especially for children.
Day and night cycle
Another highlight is the day and night change. Every 15 minutes, the layout changes from day to night and thousands of small lights bring the miniature world to life. This creates a very special atmosphere and demonstrates the detailed work of the lighting concepts.
A place for young and old
Miniatur Wunderland delights visitors of all ages. While children marvel at the moving trains, flashing lights and moving figures, adults admire the precision and effort that has gone into the design of each themed world. With over 260,000 figures, 4,000 buildings and 130,000 trees, the park is a tribute to the art of model making.
