The Elbphilharmonie, Hamburg's new landmark and one of the most important concert halls in the world, is a masterpiece that combines art, culture and architecture in a spectacular way. Located in the heart of HafenCity, the "Elphi", as it is affectionately known, rises majestically above the harbour and symbolizes the connection between tradition and modernity in the Hanseatic city.
An architectural masterpiece
The Elbphilharmonie was opened in 2017 and is the result of a visionary project by architects Herzog & de Meuron. The building combines the historic Kaispeicher A, a former warehouse for cocoa, tea and tobacco, with a glass structure whose undulating façade reflects the movement of the Elbe and the maritime surroundings.
The facade: The wave-like glass construction consists of over 1,000 individually shaped glass panels that refract the light in different nuances and bathe the building in a different light depending on the time of day.

The Plaza: The Plaza, a publicly accessible viewing platform, is located between the historic warehouse and the glass spire. From here, visitors can enjoy a 360-degree view of the Port of Hamburg, the River Elbe and the city skyline - an absolute highlight.

The concert halls
At the heart of the Elbphilharmonie are the three concert halls, which are world-famous for their exceptional acoustics and modern design.

The Great Hall: With space for around 2,100 spectators, the Great Hall is an architectural and acoustic masterpiece. The so-called "white skin", a special wall cladding made of 10,000 gypsum fiber boards, ensures perfect sound distribution so that every seat in the hall offers optimal acoustics.

Kaistudio: The third hall, the Kaistudio, is used for workshops, smaller concerts and educational projects and underlines the importance of the Elbphilharmonie as a place of education and encounter.

Art, culture and encounters
The Elbphilharmonie is much more than just a concert hall - it is a cultural center that brings people from all over the world together. In addition to the concert halls, the building houses a hotel, restaurants, bars and the plaza, which is open to all visitors. With a wide-ranging program of classical music, jazz, world music and pop, the Elbphilharmonie attracts music lovers of all genres.
A place for everyone
A central aim of the Elbphilharmonie is to make music and culture accessible to everyone. The Plaza can be visited free of charge or for a small fee, and there are numerous events and educational programs specially designed for families and children.
A landmark of modernity
The Elbphilharmonie has changed Hamburg's skyline and established the city internationally as a cultural metropolis. Its unique architecture and world-class acoustics make it a place that delights architecture fans and music lovers alike. Whether attending a concert, taking a stroll across the plaza or simply admiring the impressive building - the Elbphilharmonie is an experience that will remain in your memory.
