The Elbphilharmonie was opened in 2017 and is the result of a visionary project by architects Herzog & de Meuron. The building combines the historic Kaispeicher A, a former warehouse for cocoa, tea and tobacco, with a glass structure whose undulating façade reflects the movement of the Elbe and the maritime surroundings.
The Plaza: The Plaza, a publicly accessible viewing platform, is located between the historic warehouse and the glass spire. From here, visitors can enjoy a 360-degree view of the Port of Hamburg, the River Elbe and the city skyline - an absolute highlight.
At the heart of the Elbphilharmonie are the three concert halls, which are world-famous for their exceptional acoustics and modern design.
The Great Hall: With space for around 2,100 spectators, the Great Hall is an architectural and acoustic masterpiece. The so-called "white skin", a special wall cladding made of 10,000 gypsum fiber boards, ensures perfect sound distribution so that every seat in the hall offers optimal acoustics.
Kaistudio: The third hall, the Kaistudio, is used for workshops, smaller concerts and educational projects and underlines the importance of the Elbphilharmonie as a place of education and encounter.
The Elbphilharmonie is much more than just a concert hall - it is a cultural center that brings people from all over the world together. In addition to the concert halls, the building houses a hotel, restaurants, bars and the plaza, which is open to all visitors. With a wide-ranging program of classical music, jazz, world music and pop, the Elbphilharmonie attracts music lovers of all genres.
A central aim of the Elbphilharmonie is to make music and culture accessible to everyone. The Plaza can be visited free of charge or for a small fee, and there are numerous events and educational programs specially designed for families and children.
