The English Garden in Munich is one of the largest inner-city parks in the world and a real magnet for locals and tourists alike. This extensive green space covers around 375 hectares and offers a welcome break from the hustle and bustle of the Bavarian capital with its diverse landscape. The park, which was laid out in 1789 based on the English model, is considered one of the first public gardens in Europe and has always delighted visitors with its mixture of natural beauty and cultural attractions.

A green oasis in the heart of Munich

The English Garden impresses with its varied design: wide meadows, dense forests, gentle hills and idyllic watercourses characterize the park's image. Whether walking, jogging or cycling - the English Garden offers numerous opportunities to enjoy nature. Especially on warm days, the meadows are filled with picnic blankets, while the small streams and lakes invite you to enjoy a cool refreshment.

The beer garden at the Chinese Tower

One of the most famous landmarks of the English Garden is the Chinese towera 25 meter high wooden pavilion in the style of a pagoda. Around the tower is one of the largest and oldest beer gardens in Munich, with space for up to 7,000 guests. Here, visitors can enjoy Bavarian specialties such as pretzels, veal sausage or Obatzda under shady chestnut trees - with a pint of beer, of course, as is traditional in Munich. Brass bands regularly provide the right atmosphere and make the visit a typically Bavarian experience.

The surfer wave on the Eisbach

Another highlight of the English Garden is the famous Eisbach wavea hotspot for surfers in the middle of the city. Surfers from all over the world show off their skills at the artificial rapids - a fascinating spectacle that is also a real experience for spectators. The Eisbach wave is a symbol of the versatility of the park, which offers space for sport, nature and culture in equal measure.

Cultural and romantic corners

In addition to the well-known attractions, there are many quiet and romantic places to discover in the English Garden. The Monopterosa small Greek temple on a hill, offers a wonderful view over the park and the Munich skyline. The Japanese teahouse garden, which was created for the 1972 Olympic Games, also invites you to linger with its Far Eastern design.

Something for everyone

Although the English Garden is a popular meeting place, it offers enough space for everyone thanks to its size. Families with children, sports enthusiasts, those seeking peace and quiet or those interested in culture - everyone will find their favorite spot here. The park is also a paradise for animal lovers: Ducks, swans and other animals populate the many bodies of water, and the large meadows offer space for walking dogs.
