Do I have health insurance as an asylum seeker?
Yes, even if you are still in the asylum procedure, you will receive Medical care. You are about the Asylum Seekers Benefits Act secured. This means:

Where can I get help if I am ill?
That depends, where you live:
If you are in a
Shared accommodation or Initial reception facility live:
→ Go to the Social service or to manage the accommodation.
There you get:

one Treatment certificate for a visit to the doctor

Information on where you can go (family doctor, dentist, etc.)
If you have been in Germany for a while and have a Health card have:
→ You can go straight to the doctor - just like other people.
Tip: Ask your social worker or your supervisor at the accommodation. They will help you if you don't know where to go.

What about sick leave and work?
If you work and become ill, it is important:

Get a sick note from your doctor!
→ In Germany, this is called "Certificate of incapacity for work" or short AU.
→ You must show this to your employer (usually from the 1st or 3rd day of illness).

If you have an employment contract, you get your salary for up to 6 weeks from your employer. After that, your health insurance will cover you (if you already have regular insurance).
What if I can't work and don't get paid?
